This top was a happy combination of some spare fabric I had lying around from Ikea and a much talked about new pattern from Colette patterns, Laurel. I wanted to practise the pattern before committing to a ‘proper’ fabric and this piece was the perfect size. The obvious stripes also meant it would be relatively easy to line up, another skill I need to practise.
I finished the neckline and sleeves with a beautiful neon pink bias binding which really popped out against the lollipop stripes. The sleeves, incidentally, were from a linen tea towel, more scraps.
The finished result was much more wearable than I had first planned and aside from being a touch too big on the hip I have really enjoyed pottering about in it. It has been a wonderfully happy summer blouse.
Now to begin the autumn version….
